Skilled and novice players alike enjoy scenic golf greens tucked neatly into red rock cliffs, sandstone buttes and lava rock landscapes.

Don’t just take our word for it. This is Golf Elevated.

Copper Rock will also be home to the LPGA Senior Championship in May 2024.  Getting to Greater Zion is easy. Grab your favorite golf friends and level up your game on unparalleled vistas of greens, blue sky, and red rock cliffs.

Black Desert Golf Course

Black Desert Golf Course Photo

Set to become one of the largest resorts in the state of Utah, Black Desert Resort is the newest addition to Greater Zion in the city of Ivins. There is little this resort won’t offer with its anticipated high-end accommodations, delicious dining experiences, and a variety of leisure activities both within the confines of the resort and beyond; however, the crowning jewel of the resort is golf.

The golf course is Tom Weiskopf’s 73rd and final design, with lava rock features headlining the sprawling fairways and 360-degree views of red canyons and majestic mountain ranges in the distance. With such a brilliant combination of natural beauty and manmade precision, every hole at Black Desert could be a signature hole.

Hole 3 is particularly challenging, yet exceptionally thrilling. It’s approximately 190 yards downhill, making for some flowing undulation, and even a bunker in the middle of the green. Another challenge lies just beyond at hole 7 – it’s blind. Only a little sliver of the fairway is visible, forcing players to place a lot of trust in their lines. As the round continues, hole 13 offers a par-5 with a nice, long lake on the left-hand side, which creates a beautiful view looking at Red Mountain in the background.

Regardless of their exact location on the course, golfers are filled with inspiration as they play among the stunning juxtaposition of the red rock, the black lava, the crisp greens, the white bunker sand, and expansive blue skies – which are clear and filled with sunshine for most of the year.
This glowing resume doesn’t just catch the attention of golf aficionados, though; it captured the attention of the Professional Golfers’ Association and the Ladies Professional Golf Association as well. Black Desert will proudly host a PGA Tour stop in October 2024 and an  LPGA tournament in 2025.

Bloomington Country Club

Bloomington Country Club Course

As the second course ever built in Greater Zion, Bloomington Country Club has been contributing a strong sense of community and excellent, user-friendly greens to the golf scene since its establishment in 1969. From golf’s humble beginnings to the prestigious reputation Greater Zion golf has today, Bloomington Country Club has seen it all – and managed to keep pace with its newer counterparts thanks to some fresh renovations in 2019.

Bloomington Country Club features superb green undulation, fairway bunkers, greenside bunkers, and a pleasant contrast between the green fairways and the more yellowish Bermuda roughs. While Bloomington is generous off the tee, beware of the strategic placement of hazards around the greens.

Hole 9 is the star of Bloomington Country Club. The long green invites golfers to test the strength, precision, and distance of their swing. It’s a par-4 with a straightforward design, yet its length and water features provide just the right amount of challenge. The allure of the ninth isn’t just in its playability, but in the spectacular views it offers featuring the Virgin River, the picturesque Bloomington neighborhood, and red-rock views in the distance. Hole 17 presents its own challenges in addition to the spectacular views, featuring a 61-yard deep green with an incline in the middle, allowing for play to fluctuate anywhere from 130 yards to 180 yards.

Besides the excellent golf and signature holes, Bloomington Country Club has villas available for stay-and-play getaways, scrumptious dining options, a pool, and membership packages that grant access to all of the above. Non-members are welcome to join club members as guests or explore other nearby dining options.

Copper Rock Golf Course

copper rock

Located in the backyard of Sand Hollow State Park among the Hurricane Cliffs, Copper Rock Golf Course is a links-style course offering a classic golf experience, but still featuring some modern elements. It is the perfect balance of unique yet traditional layouts, upscale yet friendly accommodations, and challenging yet approachable greens.

Hole 12 is a par-5 up the hill. It’s lengthy and one of the most elevated parts of the golf course, but panoramic views – including a waterfall – surround you through the entire round. The green looks back at the tee box, creating an especially incredible view of both the manmade and natural surrounding features.

Hole 8 is positioned against a mountainside, incorporating an elevated tee at the beginning of the round that contrasts nicely with the blind uphill approach that is required soon after. As golfers look back, views of the mountain range applaud their precision and fill them with inspiration.

Of all the exceptional holes on Copper Rock’s course, 17 is undoubtedly the signature. It features the highest point on the course, with a view overlooking the entire front nine, the lakes of holes 9 and 18, and expansive Greater Zion scenery.

Copper Rock does have an onsite restaurant, the Copper Rock Cafe. Before or after your round, you can grab a drink or enjoy one of their famous sandwiches. Other menu options include wraps, burgers, brats, and a wide selection of appetizers.
Copper Rock welcomes every kind of golfer, from average players to full-fledged professionals. They proudly host the LPGA Epson Copper Rock Champions and the 2024 LPGA Senior Championship, sharing their unique blend of luxury and community with true golf lovers from all around.

Coral Canyon Golf Course

Female golfer midswing under blue sky with fluffy clouds.

Coral Canyon Golf Course is an 18-hole championship, resort-style golf course surrounded by red rock and mountain ranges – often compared to the otherworldly landscapes of the planet Mars. The greens are phenomenal, attracting golfers from around the world to enjoy luxurious golf at the doorway to some of the world’s most famed natural wonders.

From the very first hole at Coral Canyon, golfers are enticed with a signature hole. Hole 1 is an excellent par-4, teeing off from high above the rest of the course. The 100-yard drop straight downhill challenges golfers’ precision, with a contrasting uphill shot required quickly after.

The next signature hole is hole 6, a short par-3 with an island green heading over a canyon. It’s a two-tiered green with a bunker, big boulders, and expansive views behind it that golfers often compare to the planet Mars. In addition to their terrestrial appearance, the boulders make for great tactical bounces onto the green.

Hole 18 offers a similar view with a uniquely challenging twist – or turn, technically. This dogleg left, par-4 hole creates a high-risk, yet high-reward shot. Golfers can attempt to take a bite off the dogleg or take an extra stroke and navigate around the curve for safe measure. Regardless of the direction golfers choose, they are rewarded with views of not just the natural scenery, but the collection of Greater Zion communities at the end of hole 18.

Located off I-15 and SR-9, on the east side of Washington (near Hurricane), Coral Canyon provides easy access to lodging and dining options, or even your next round. If you seek something closer, Coral Canyon does have an onsite restaurant: Bistro72. Offering a variety of dishes, Bistro72 is a convenient option for breakfast, lunch, and early dinner.

Dixie Red Hills Golf Club

DixieRedHillsgolf3

Dixie Red Hills Golf Course is a St. George staple, representing the genesis of golf in Greater Zion. It is a nine-hole, par-34 golf course, with three par-3s and one par-5. The remaining holes are par-4s, totaling approximately 2,700 yards from the back tees. The natural green fairways are surrounded by red rock, creating compelling contrasts for all levels of golfers to enjoy as they play. Don’t let the small size of this course fool you; Dixie Red Hills has a big reputation for hosting wholesome, classical, and much beloved golfing experiences.

The first signature hole at Dixie Red Hills is hole 1. It’s a short par-4 that doglegs left, featuring rock structures to protect access to the greens. The rocks challenge golfers to be precise and avoid any unfortunate ricochets.

Another signature hole at Dixie Red Hills is hole 3, a par-5 with a layout resembling the shape of a boomerang. Although not particularly long, the rocky features and sharp doglegs require masterful navigating and precision as golfers work their way around the red cliffs.

The final signature hole at Dixie Red Hills is hole 6. A sentimental favorite among many locals, it is a 105-yard par-3. It requires a shot over a water feature to land on a postage-stamp-shaped green. Like all the other greens at Dixie Red Hills, it is a challenge that can creep up on the unsuspecting golfer and showcase the precision of those with proper know-how.

In 1965, Dixie Red Hills became the first golf course ever built in the area, successfully kicking off the long-standing and ever-growing era of golf in Greater Zion. Its grand opening was so highly anticipated that it originally opened with only seven holes completed, and it has captured the hearts of visitors and locals alike ever since.

Located near the intersection of Bluff Street and Sunset Boulevard in St. George, it’s not far from downtown, restaurants, and other attractions. Its location makes it even easier to sneak in a quick nine, anytime.

Entrada at Snow Canyon

Golf course surrounded by black lava rocks

Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club is the only truly private golf club available in Greater Zion, offering above-and-beyond customer service and attention to detail for members and onsite guests in St. George. A lodging stay at the Inn at Entrada includes access to the otherwise private course. Stay to play.

The course is phenomenal, posing just the right amount of challenge to any golfer who dares to take on the fairways. With perfectly manicured grass, fast greens, black-lava-rock features, and views of red-rock mountains in the distance, Entrada is a gem in the crown of the Greater Zion golf scene.

Hole 3 is unique, orienting golfers to swing toward the incredible views of Snow Canyon State Park in the distance. The first stroke off the tee requires golfers to navigate over a water feature, creating a beautiful picture of desert ruggedness that contrasts artfully with the manmade oases. Don’t let the captivating scenery distract you, though; the length of hole 3 demands strong, strategic drives.

Water is a recurring element at Entrada, with another signature hole, hole 7, requiring strictly straight shots in order to avoid the beautiful, yet hazardous, waterfalls that surround golfers from both sides. Golfers also have to be mindful of a subtle dogleg near the end of the hole, which requires tactful adjustments and a keen aim.

Following quickly is signature hole 8, a long par-3 that increases the challenge significantly. It has been known to puzzle even the most astute golfers, sometimes forcing them to settle for a bogey or worse. The high tee at the beginning of the hole offers views of every stunning feature Greater Zion is known for, including red rocks, snow-capped mountain ranges, and black lava rock; however, the views can be deceiving. Even from the higher vantage point, it is difficult to hit the green – the serenity that the scenery creates does well to ease the pain of a difficult round, though.

Entrada does have an onsite restaurant for members and their guests. Non-members, don’t fear, feel free to explore nearby dining options.

Green Spring Golf Course

golf course green springs Greater Zion 2

Green Spring Golf Course is set among towering plateaus, soaring valleys, and lush arbor features near the City of Washington. The variety of landscaping features and elevation changes makes each hole on the course unique, and the views of the thriving Washington community only add to the scenery. As the name implies, Green Spring is the proud home of some of the greenest greens in Greater Zion.

When it comes to signature holes, hole 5 is definitely a fan favorite. Golfers are positioned to look toward the Pine Valley Mountains in the distance, mixed with views of Greater Zion’s red rock spires and canyon gorges. It requires a strong drive and tactful navigation around some sneaky elevation changes, mixing just the right amount of challenge with the splendid scenery.

Quickly following is hole 6, a par-4 that requires a lengthy, precise tee shot – short shots just won’t cut it. In fact, this hole requires such a unique combination of precision strength that it is consistently ranked as one of the most difficult holes in the entire state of Utah. This high difficulty level also earned hole 6 the informal title “The Devil’s Gulch” among golfers. One of its hallmarks is a bridge granting access to the green and uphill positioning.

Hole 15 offers a peaceful reprise from the daunting hole 6. The water feature at the beginning of the hole often accommodates beautiful waterfowl, and the shady tree features create a cool oasis. Don’t let the serenity fool you though; there is still plenty of challenge to be had on Hole 15. It is a par-3 that pushes golfers to be strategic with their short shots to make it to the green efficiently.

Located just off of I-15, there are plenty of pre- and post-round dining and entertainment options near Green Spring Golf Course in the city of Washington.

Sand Hollow Golf Club

Aerial view of desert golf course

Located in the heart of the Hurricane Valley, Sand Hollow Resort is award-winning and  awe-inspiring. The red sands of the scenery and immaculately maintained red-sand bunkers contrast nicely with the manicured green fairways. It’s a links-style golf course, set in the sand dunes and among cliffs’ edges, with a beautiful mountain-filled backdrop featuring Zion National Park. Sand Hollow offers an especially unique golf experience beginning at hole 12, though; you play along the side of a cliff.

Hole 13 is a short par-4, creating a high-risk, yet high-reward situation. Golfers can lay up short of the bunker, or the bold can attempt a drive all the way to the green. The cliffs on either side add to the challenge both literally and psychologically.

Hole 14 follows quickly after. Requiring a long drive down a steep hill, golfers can expect plenty of flowing undulation. Those who can balance their swing between strong and precise appropriately are rewarded with a stunning view.

The final signature hole on this impressive row of spectacular play is Hole 15. It is a unique par-3, touting a tee box many know as “The Devil’s Throat.” Named for the intense challenge that contradicts the serene views, the tee box of this hole is set between two rock formations. The tunnel of natural beauty creates a telescopic effect, focusing on the captivating view ahead, while immersing golfers in the very same scenery they admire.

An onsite restaurant offers full meals or at-the-turn snacks and beverages. The Grille at Sand Hollow Resort is an excellent onsite restaurant. With its wide variety of culinary offerings, it is the perfect (and most convenient) option to prepare for or replenish from a nice round of golf at Sand Hollow.
Sand Hollow Resort offers the perfect stay-and-play pairing, where you can take in golf, hop on an ATV to explore the nearby dunes of Sand Hollow State Park, or take to the water of the park’s reservoir.

Sky Mountain Golf Course

Desert golf course with blue sky

Near the city of Hurricane lies a picturesque landscape featuring sandstone and flowing desert hills with views of Zion National Park in the distance. Golfing at Sky Mountain Golf Course feels like riding on Cloud Nine. Owned and operated by the City of Hurricane, this 18-hole course is much more challenging than the yardage implies and creates ample opportunity for golfers to shoot consistently good scores.

Hole 16 is a par-3 that trails along the side of a cliff, creating high stakes and high levels of thrill. From the tee box, golfers can take in the panoramic views of the entire course. While progressing through the hole, the view will shift from the course itself to the incredible views that lie beyond, including the red rocks for which Greater Zion is known, and the more traditional mountains that are associated with the state of Utah. The blend of the two environments is a unique phenomenon, inspiring golfers to elevate their game to match the scenic elevation.

Following quickly after is hole 17, a tricky par-4 that requires golfers to use their best driving skills to navigate over a ravine. As an added challenge, the tee shot is completely blind. Golfers can either take the safe route and shoot with their wedge, or they can opt for the drive and test their strength and precision among the reverent mountain ranges and red-rock canyons.

The final signature hole at Sky Mountain Golf Course is hole 18. Stunning scenery accompanies golfers as they finish up the course on this long par-5. The length of this hole creates plenty of approach options. Golfers with the right combination of skill and precision can complete this hole in only two strokes if they are willing to take risks; however, the more mellow, strategic golfer has the same opportunity to thrive at the conclusion of the course if they play it smart.

Sky Mountain Golf Course does have light concession options available at Sky Mountain Grill, with plenty of other top-notch dining establishments nearby.

Southgate Golf Club

Male golfer in midswing in front of small pond.

Short yet challenging, walkable yet scenic, Southgate Golf Course is a well-balanced golf experience with several water features. Located on the south side of St. George, just off of Dixie Drive, Southgate is in the perfect spot for golfers to play a refreshing game while still enjoying the surrounding community and its offerings.

Hole 3 is one of Southgate’s most memorable holes. A par-3 that traverses a serene pond, the hole requires strength and precision from the moment golfers step onto the tee box – which is surrounded by water. In addition to the psychological challenge this creates, the green lies about 150 yards out from the tee, challenging golfers to drive effectively in order to avoid the various water features.

Another hole that captivates golfers at Southgate is hole 8. A short par-4, hole 8 carries over water features as well. This navigation requires golfers to choose between the risky distance or a safer, strategic approach. Don’t let the short distance deceive – golfers earn every stroke as they tactfully navigate around water hazards.

The final signature hole at Southgate Golf Course is hole 16. This long par-3 plays downhill and over more water hazards, adding the undulation factor to the already high-risk navigation. The greens are also perched up higher, creating haphazardous elevation that can hold onto precise shots, or send the more wayward ones soaring out of bounds.

No matter what hole you’re playing at Southgate, expect a stepped-up municipal experience with great service. Make sure to visit the grill for pre- or post-round grub, or order something for the turn.

St. George Golf Club

Male golfer in midswing on golf course under a blue sky with fluffy clouds.

St. George Golf Club is one of the public golf courses owned by the City of St. George. It boasts an excellent, hilltop view of the city and a friendly atmosphere. The traditional layout of this course is ideal for golfers who enjoy a good walk or leisurely stroll between strokes. St. George Golf Club is positioned alongside the Ft. Pearce Wash, creating water features that weave in, out, and around the fairways.

Hole 9 is a favorite at St. George Golf Club. It is a par-5 with a water feature positioned right in front of the green. From a distance, this water feature is often invisible, creating a stealthy trap for wayward golf balls. Even the most skilled golfers struggle with this hole since it is such a high-risk, high-reward situation. When bold strokes pay off, golfers have been known to hit some of their best scores on hole 9.

Hole 16 is another signature of St. George Golf Club with even more variation – this time, in the tee boxes. Golfers can take several different approaches to this hole, being sure to navigate over the bunkers and water hazards strategically. They add another level of thrill to the hole, but one wrong swing can lead to an unfortunate drop, away from the excellent greens. Hilltop views of the City of St. George await golfers at the end of the hole as a reward for conquering the challenge.

The final hole at this course, hole 18, offers another challenge to close out the game with similar water hazards. The Ft. Pearce Piece Wash is braided into the fairway, pushing golfers to aim meticulously or risk finishing the round in the water.

St. George Golf Club offers a stepped-up municipal experience with great service. This includes an onsite grill to satisfy pre- or post-round cravings, available to enjoy at the clubhouse or order at the turn.

Sunbrook Golf Club

Green fairway with pine trees and red rock formation in background.

Sunbrook Golf Club has a reputation of being perfectly balanced between challenging and playable. All golfers from beginners to experts can find their niche at St. George’s very own Sunbrook – especially since there are 27 championship holes from which to choose. The combination of three different nine-hole courses – The Pointe, Woodbridge, and Blackrock – creates a unique and robust variety. Regardless of the route golfers select, the scenic views compel them to compete on a level that is as elevated as the scenery.

One of the signature holes is hole 5, found in The Pointe section of the course. This par-4 features beautiful views of the Pine Valley Mountains and a 310-yard dogleg left. The view at hole 5 is truly all-encompassing, offering visuals of the thriving city of St. George and the rugged, natural vistas in the distance.

The next signature hole is found in the Woodbridge section of the course. Hole 4 is a par-4 featuring lava rocks trailing along both sides of the hole and the green perched on an independent island in the middle of a serene water hazard. Though the challenge offers little room for error, the thrill of teeing off from a high elevation toward a floating target is unmatched.

Hole 7 of the Blackrock portion of the course is another signature hole at Sunbrook. It has the best features from the previously mentioned holes, including lava rocks incorporated into the design and a water feature near the green. The lake surrounding the green creates high stakes among the serene scenery – a combination that entices golfers to elevate the caliber of their game to align with the elevated scenery.

Sunbrook’s excellent grill, including a full breakfast and lunch menu, is the perfect bookend for your round. Enjoy your meal and/or beverages in their top-notch dining area with panoramic views of the course, or call ahead and order to-go.

SunRiver Golf Club

Sun rising over golf course

SunRiver Golf Club is a local favorite, boasting a unique setup compared to most other courses in the area. It is privately owned and located in the heart of a warm neighborhood community. It is still accessible for the public to play and conveniently located just off of I-15 near the south side of St. George. Here, golfers enjoy panoramic views from the Arizona border to the thriving collection of communities in Greater Zion.

SunRiver takes great pride in its smooth, speedy greens and the artful landscaping that features everything from pine trees to palm trees. When you combine these aspects with the stunning Greater Zion scenery that surrounds all of the golf courses in the area, you get a truly top-notch golfing experience.

Hole 8 is an excellent par-3. Although this hole is short, it still has plenty of challenging elements due to the inconspicuous elevation changes. The slope can cause even the most seasoned golfers to stumble if they miss at an inopportune moment.

Following quickly after is hole 9, known for its outstanding tee box. Like many of the holes at SunRiver (as you might have guessed from the name), hole 9 requires golfers to shoot over a water feature in order to reach the particularly narrow fairway. Hole 9 also features a two-tiered green, which demands precision. Even the slightest disparity in your shot will greatly impact your putting game.

Finally, signature hole 18 is a fantastic finishing hole. It incorporates a water feature on the left side and a cliff on the right side, forcing golfers to hit straight – plus, it offers an excellent view of the Pine Valley Mountains. With a good drive and wedge shot, there is ample opportunity to score a birdie. The green complex is severely sloped from back to front, requiring even more precision to avoid a precarious situation.

SunRiver Golf Club does have a restaurant onsite. Guru’s Sports Bar & Grill offers plenty of casual bites and beverages to enjoy as you watch your favorite sporting events or as you unwind from your personal athletic endeavors. Pro tip: have an Arnold Palmer (or something stronger) on the patio.

The Ledges Golf Course

View of golf course from an elevated tee.

North of St. George (just off of SR-18), The Ledges Golf Club is perched along cliff sides adjacent to Snow Canyon State Park, Zion National Park’s “little brother.” This proximity makes The Ledges a stunning combination of unique and picturesque.

Beauty is not the only thing to behold at The Ledges, though; the course itself is filled with difficult greens, well-placed bunkers, and plenty of other challenges that inspire golfers to compete almost as much as the scenery does.

The first signature hole, hole 11, is a par-5. It traverses up a hill, featuring a wide tee shot with bunkers on the left side. Hole 11 also demands strength. If golfers don’t hit the fairway quickly enough, it is difficult to recover.

Following quickly after is hole 12, known for its exceptional views. In addition to the stunning visuals, hole 12 offers plenty of challenge at the green. It is slanted from left to right, forming a diagonal elevation pattern that is notoriously difficult to navigate.

Finally, the definitive signature hole at The Ledges is hole 14 – a short par-4. It features a very narrow green, requiring precise aim and a straight shot. Golfers are often tempted to use a longer shot, but a steep, cliffside dropoff awaits those who swing too close to the sun.

At every hole, you will be accompanied by stunning visuals of Snow Canyon State Park, where rich history collides with captivating geology and a never-ending well of outdoor activities from which to choose. Play with a cliffside view, and dive into the landscape once your round is complete. Everything from e-biking and leisurely hiking to horseback riding and high-adventure climbing awaits you just below the ledges.

Additionally, The Ledges Golf Club does have a full-service restaurant onsite, Fish Rock Grille. The menu features a wide variety of dining options from upscale dishes to casual snacks, and every option pairs perfectly with a round or two of excellent golf. Whether sitting on their patio or indoors, you’ll still be immersed in the beautiful red-rock surroundings.

With all of these outstanding activities and offerings, it can take more than just a few hours to enjoy everything The Ledges has to offer beyond the fairways. Luckily, they offer stay-and-play packages and vacation rentals to accommodate visitors with more extensive itineraries.
